Tufting is the process of using a handheld tufting gun to punch yarn through a stretched fabric to create a pile rug. In the last 3 years it has exploded on Instagram and TikTok as a weekend creative hobby. In India, Splashit runs beginner-friendly tufting workshops in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Bangalore where you finish a 1.5 foot custom rug in 90 minutes.

What is a tufting gun?

A tufting gun is a handheld electric tool that punches loops of yarn through a stretched fabric to build up a rug pile. There are two kinds — cut pile (for soft, fluffy rugs) and loop pile (for flat, looped rugs). Splashit uses cut-pile guns for beginners.

How long does it take to tuft a rug?

A 1.5 foot custom rug takes about 90 minutes to tuft for a first-timer. This includes design selection, tracing, tufting and finishing. Larger rugs (3-4 feet) can take 4-6 hours and are available as private sessions.

Do you need tufting experience?

No. Every Splashit tufting workshop starts with a full demo. The tufting gun is surprisingly easy to control — most first-timers get the hang of it in under 10 minutes.

Where to learn tufting in India

Splashit is India's largest tufting workshop provider with studios in Delhi (Saket), Gurugram (Sector 59), Noida (Sector 49) and Bangalore (Koramangala). Workshop prices start at ₹2,000 per person and include a finished rug worth ₹3,000+.
